South Korean tennis player Kwon Soonwoo, once ranked No 52 in the world, has made a significant decision. He is leaving the tennis court to fulfill his compulsory military service. This will take him away from the sport for more than 18 months, starting in January 2025. In a social media announcement (translated), he shared his plans, stating, "Hello everyone. I will be enlisting on January 13, 2025. My tour life will pause for nearly two years, but I will return in the second quarter with an even more perfect version of myself, just as you have been waiting for."
Pro Career and Achievements
Kwon turned pro in 2015 and has made his mark in the tennis world. Currently ranked 350th in the ATP singles rankings, he has achieved two titles. In 2021, he triumphed at the Almaty Open, and in 2023, he added the Adelaide International 2 title to his list of accomplishments. These victories showcase his talent and determination on the tennis court. 1: His journey to becoming a professional tennis player was not an easy one. It required countless hours of practice, dedication, and perseverance. Through his hard work, he was able to rise through the ranks and achieve success at a young age. 2: The titles he has won have not only brought him personal satisfaction but have also put South Korean tennis on the map. His achievements have inspired other young tennis players in the country and have shown that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.Goals for the Second Phase of His Career
At 27 years old, Kwon has set his sights on the second phase of his professional career. Many people believe that starting again at 30 is too late and that it's difficult to resume the tour. However, Kwon is confident that his prime starts at 30. He has only achieved 20% of the goals he set for himself, and he is determined to fulfill the remaining 80%. 1: His vision for Korean tennis is clear. He wants to make the kind of tennis that all tennis fans in Korea have dreamed of a reality. He believes that with his skills and determination, he can achieve this goal. 2: Kwon's farewell is only temporary. He is taking a break to fulfill his military duty but is looking forward to returning to the tennis court with a renewed sense of purpose. He hopes that his fans will continue to support him and look forward to his comeback.New
